In 2019, the Boy Scouts of America changed its charter and name when they became Scouts BSA and for the first time since beginning in 1903, admitted girls into the nationally recognized youth leadership program.
Hebron's Troop 1028 was officially chartered in February 2019. The Charter Organization for Troop 1028 is the Hebron Lions Club.
Girls 11-17 years old interested in scouting with our troop do not need to reside in Hebron! We are open to girls from surrounding towns who are interested in outdoor adventures and leadership opportunities.
Each Wednesday the troop meets at Phelps Hall located at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 30 Church St, Hebron, CT from 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM. Each meeting begins with a flag ceremony and reciting of the Scout Oath and Law. Meeting topics are decided upon by the senior youth leadership. Topics may include the planning of troop events and outdoor activities or working on merit badges and rank advancement. Scouts are encouraged to plan their own goals for the evening such as demonstrating a scout skill to achieve a rank advancement. A closing ceremony signifies the end of each meeting.
During the scout year, the entire troop participates in a Court of Honor ceremony organized by their Senior Patrol Leader and Patrol Leader Council. During the ceremony, Scouts receive recognition for merit badges and rank advancements they have achieved.
The Troop Committee, which oversees troop operations meets remotely on the fourth Tuesday of every month from 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM. Adult participation as Committee Members, Assistant Scoutmasters, and Merit Badge Counselors is welcome and encouraged.
